On April 9, 2021 we learned that the Duke of Edinburgh had died at the age of 99. As a school community, we express our deep condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family.
Prince Philip clearly led an extraordinary life and his unwavering commitment to young people began as far back as 1956 when he established The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Since then, millions of young people have participated in more than 130 countries and territories – building the skills, confidence and resilience they need to be ready for the world and to make a difference to the communities around them.
BIS-NY was recently accepted as an International Award Centre and so will be playing our own small part in building on this important and much-valued legacy of Prince Philip. We are pleased to announce that next year BIS-NY will be offering all Upper School students the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh International Award. More information on how the school will be delivering the Award will be announced in the coming months, but we thought this was a very fitting moment to share this announcement with the school community.
In memory of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, we invite you to watch this short video created by Award USA.
