Introducing the International Baccalaureate

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) for children aged 3 - 12 nurtures and develops young students as caring, active participants in a lifelong journey of learning. 

Through its inquiry-led, transdisciplinary framework, the PYP challenges students to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning as they explore local and global issues and opportunities in real-life contexts.  The aim of the PYP is to prepare all students for the intellectual challenges to come, focusing on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. 

The PYP successfully offers a framework to meet children’s individual needs be they academic, social, physical, emotional or cultural. Leadership opportunities in the form of School Council positions are available to children in the Primary Years, allowing them to have a voice with not just their peers but school leadership also.

The PYP encourages students to be aware and sensitive to the experiences of others, through embedding of the Learner Profile throughout the school. The ten inspirational qualities that underpin and motivate the work of teachers, students and school provide a common language with the aim of developing internationally minded young people, who will help create a better and more peaceful world. 

In Year 6 at the end of the PYP programme students also complete a long-term project (Exhibition), where they decide what they want to learn about, identify what they already know, discovering what they will need to know to complete the project, and create a proposal or criteria for completing it

The MYP is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world.

The curriculum continues to successfully blend the creativity and inquiry based approach of the I.B. with the depth and rigour of the English National Curriculum. The eight subject disciplines outlined below are complimented by the inclusion of Latin, a vibrant sports program, school plays, debate, choir, and student council all aimed at providing our students with the broadest and most stimulating programme of study.

This cohesive curriculum is hands-on and is explored through the lens of the global contexts and driven by the approaches to learning "ATL" (Approaches to Learning) skills. Students enthusiastically engage with how these disciplines manifest themselves in the real world, allowing pupils to make meaningful connections in their learning whilst developing critical and reflective thinking skills in the process.

We take great pride in the relationships that we foster with our middle school students, and take great care to introduce approaches to learning to help tackle complex and sensitive issues that the students may be facing at this time. As well as promoting action and service to the local and global community, regular mentor sessions fosters positive communication and problem-solving skills to equip our young adults to transition smoothly on to their onward schools.

Our exciting annual excursion week promotes international mindedness as well as developing life-long learners outside of the classroom.

The academic rigour and breadth of our MYP curriculum allow our students to navigate towards the next stage of their education, confident, happy and eager to learn.

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) comprises eight subject groups:

• Design.

In our Upper School, students follow the rigorous and internationally respected Cambridge International Examinations. These examinations are taken by over 1 million students in over 160 countries worldwide and are highly regarded by Universities in the USA, UK and Internationally.

Successful completion of these A-Levels not only meets the entrance requirements of leading America's leading institutions, but can often count for up to one year's university credit.  Find out more about global recognition for CIE here.
