University & Future Schools

At The British International School of New York we prepare our students to succeed, wherever their future may take them and at whatever stage that next move might happen.

We know this future may differ for each of our families, but there is a common strand that runs through all; to ensure our students leave us ready and able to take on the challenges of their next opportunity, prepared academically, socially and emotionally.

We recognise that deciding upon the next school can be a stressful decision and that the school can play a fundamental role in aiding the decision making process from identification of suitable schools, looking at timelines for when best to apply, exam preparation, interview technique, and advising on acceptances.

Although our Upper School now provides an option for BIS-NY families to stay on with us until university, for those with other plans our placement continues to be an important part of our offering and a measurement of our collective success as a part of your child's journey. For more information about the Cambridge International Programme IGCSEs and A-Levels in the Upper School, please visit here.

College Placement & School Profile

At BIS-NY we're committed to providing our students with  individualised support throughout the college planning, application, and acceptance process.

With access to dedicated guidance from our college counselling team, the students will have consistent support and advice with their questions while planning for and applying to colleges and universities. Our college counselors will regularly meet with students and their families as they prepare for the college application process as well as working with colleges and universities.

Throughout the process, we know our upper schoolers can be confident given the international profile of the the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and the Cambridge A-Level programmes, the most widely taken and highly sought after by top institutions worldwide, agreed to be the best preparation for higher education.

Global recognition & University Preparation: Cambridge IGCSEs and A-Levels

Cambridge qualifications are recognised and valued by universities all around the world, including in the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, Germany and beyond. In places such as the United States and Canada, good grades in carefully chosen Cambridge International A Level subjects can result in up to one year of university course credit.

Over 880 universities in the US formally accept Cambridge International AS & A Levels, including all Ivy League and Ivy Plus universities. These universities include Brown, Harvard, MIT, Stanford and Yale. Many more US universities accept Cambridge qualifications on application. In the UK, all universities accept Cambridge qualifications.

BIS-NY works closely with universities to make sure Cambridge qualifications develop the skills and knowledge students need to succeed at university. In a 2018 survey of higher education admissions tutors at the world’s leading universities, 100 per cent of respondents said Cambridge programmes give students excellent preparation for university.

To find out more about recognition of specific Cambridge qualifications, see the Guidance for universities page or visit the Cambridge Recognition Database.

I would like to thank all my teachers for the curriculum they have taught me within the classroom and for the life lessons they have taught outside of it. I am grateful for my time here and I cannot wait for my next chapter. The memories I have made here can never be forgotten and BIS-NY will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you everyone who has made my school experience the amazing one it is.
