Drama at The British International School of New York is integrated through the IB units of inquiry, giving students a kinesthetic and empathetic lens to enhance their understanding whilst providing a natural vehicle where they can develop confidence through expression and exploration.

Process drama is used as a means to think critically, problem solve, collaborate, and build on both verbal and nonverbal communication skills.

In creating drama, students explore movement, facial expression, gesture, use of space, and voice to imagine and recreate roles, themes, stories, and experiences. Students are exposed to a variety of dramatic forms including creative movement, impersonation, improvisation, mime, musical, role play, pantomime, puppetry, re-enactment, scripted drama, and skit. They develop and learn to embody characters, and take an active part in their creative experiences.

In listening and responding to drama, students experience a wide variety of scripts and stories from different times, cultures and places and, where possible, access live theater performances throughout the city, and participate in dramatic presentations at school and beyond.
