It made my son’s year when he was invited to join the track team. He really enjoys the training, as well as being part of the team and competing in New York wide competitions. It has changed his outlook on sport and motivated him to new levels.

At The British International School of New York, our Physical and Health Education journey begins with students in the Early Years Program developing a mastery of fundamental movement skills. This step towards physical literacy provides a platform to move confidently and with control through a range of physical activities for the years ahead.

This strong foundation leads to the Primary Years Program (PYP) where students experience net games, striking and fielding games, as well as invasion games, including soccer, badminton, cricket, basketball and gymnastics. Wherever possible, PE lessons are linked to the unit of study in the classroom and the use of technology assists with creating an alternative perspective for our young athletes. In addition to the school facilities, we proudly enlist specialist facilities around us to enhance our PE and Games program including the nearby East River Park, Hunter College, Chelsea Piers and Basketball City.

A significant feature of the Physical and Health Education Program, aligned with the English National Curriculum, is our proud commitment to offering age appropriate swimming instruction to all students from Reception to Year Nine.

Beyond the classroom students have the opportunity to demonstrate and develop the many values of our school, and experience the wide range of emotions that team sports provide. Whether it is autumnal soccer in Central Park or winters spent on the basketball court, school pride and spirit are proudly on show through our soccer, basketball, swimming, track & field and tennis teams; competing against local independent middle schools in the American International Private School League.

Competitive school sports are available to all students in Year Six to Nine.
