Yuliya Basis has been a proud New Yorker since 1999, but she was born in a small town of Orel, Russia, into a family of professional musicians. She left home at age fifteen to study piano in Moscow and earned her Masters Degree at Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where her mentors were the renowned professors Victor Merzhanov in Piano Performance and Tatiana Gaidamovich for Chamber Music.

After graduation, Ms. Basis embarked on a journey in the realm of music education. She has been successfully teaching private and group piano to students of all ages, most recently on the faculty of the United Nations International School and The Piano School of NYC. She also taught piano in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in 2002-2003 and worked for American Language Center in Moscow in 2005-2006.

At the same time, her work as a collaborative pianist has always been an important part of her professional life. Ms. Basis has been a staff accompanist at Kaufman Center for over 10 years and has appeared in recitals at numerous New York City venues, as well as abroad. An avid chamber musician, she recently recorded a CD with her husband, violinist and composer Andrii Didorenko.

During her free time, Ms. Basis loves to travel or to explore the city where two of her favorite places to be are Metropolitan Museum and Metropolitan Opera.
