Svetlana Tsoneva
Violin
Violinist Svetlana Tsoneva made her Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall solo debut in February 2005. A top-prizewinner in a number of violin competitions, she was chosen to participate in radio show “From the Top”, which broadcast her performance on radio stations across the nation and brought her the “Best Choice of the Audience Award” in 1999. Ms.Tsoneva enjoys a versatile career as a performer, studio musician, and educator.
Her recent solo performance discography includes Sting’s If on a Winter’s Night, The Space Between with Chiara Civello, and Eddie Higgins’ Moonlight Becomes You, among many others. Additional highlights have included performances with Sting at Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Jazz at Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis, as well as with renowned tap-dancer Savion Glover and Caetano Veloso at the Beacon Theater.
Having received a solid and extensive musical education in Europe and the United States, Ms. Tsoneva is a firm believer in passing her musical knowledge on. In addition to her position at BISNY, Ms. Tsoneva is also a Teaching Artist for the Midori and Friends Foundation and is the first violin and chamber music coach for Inter School Orchestras of New York at Morningside and Turtle Bay. She has been on the faculty of Church Street School for Music and led Riverside State Parks’ violin program.
Ms. Tsoneva started playing violin at age five and made her solo debut with orchestra at age nine in her native Plovdiv, Bulgaria. She took on her first tour at the age of thirteen, performing throughout Austria and Germany, and later on as a soloist with Chamber Orchestra “Plovdiv in Bulgaria, France, Belgium, and Greece. She earned her Masters of Music degree from Mannes College in New York and Bachelors of Music degree from New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.
