Stephen Wallace
Teacher
Mr. Wallace is an energetic and committed educator who believes in the ability of young minds to develop and flourish when given the proper environment. He is a lifelong learner, dedicated to improving himself and his profession in any way possible. He completed two undergraduate degrees at The Peabody School of Education at Vanderbilt University: one in Elementary Education and another in Child Studies. While at Vanderbilt, he regularly made the Dean’s List and participated in many extracurricular programs including VU Students for Science Education and Habitat for Humanity.
Upon graduation in the spring of 2009, Mr. Wallace immediately began teaching first grade at Rosemary Hills Primary School – a Title One school in the Washington D.C. area – as a long-term substitute. Directly afterward, he began teaching and mentoring Pre-Kindergarten students with Autism in a classroom environment within the same school. This experience led Mr. Wallace to an opportunity to work with the same students over the summer.
Whilst educating students with Autism over the summer, Mr. Wallace was interviewed for and subsequently given the position of Fourth Grade Teacher at College Gardens IB World School in Rockville, Maryland. He has taught there for two years, being promoted to team leader and participating on many after work committees such as the NAACP Committee, Positive Behavior Intervention System Committee, and the School Leadership Committee. Being a lifelong learner, he has participated in multiple IB trainings and classes to improve his familiarity with the program and fluency with the teaching methodology.
Mr. Wallace greatly looks forward to educating the students of the British International School of New York. He believes that his energy, knowledge, and dedication will serve the young minds he teaches next year and that his passion for continued improvement and education well beyond college will inspire his students to continue learning outside of school grounds and the school timeline.
