Katherine Tregenna
Teacher
Kath Tregenna was born in Cornwall, England. She holds a bachelor’s degree in French from Southampton University and a highlight of her course was spending a year as an English teaching assistant in a school outside Paris. She also holds a post graduate certificate of education from Exeter University. She spent the early years of her career teaching the British National Curriculum in several schools in the Bristol area. During this time she taught all age ranges from 5 – 11 year olds and her roles included being a NQT mentor, PE coordinator and KS1 maths coordinator.
Kath has a passion for travel and experiencing new cultures. After university she spent a year working her way around around Australia and has also spent a year travelling through South America, Central America and South East Asia. It was after her second trip that she decided to take up a teaching job in the Caribbean. She spent three years teaching the British National Curriculum on the tiny island of Mustique before moving to Barbados. Here she was introduced to the Primary Years Programme and became passionate about the IB philosophy. She was at The Codrington School for its PYP authorization visit and three years later for its evaluation visit, being a key member of the team which completed the school self study for this visit. In her four years there the school also became authorized to teach the MYP and DP programmes becoming the first school in the Caribbean to teach all 3 programmes and giving Kath an excellent understanding of the progression and continuity of an IB education. She has completed IB workshops in Barbados, Atlanta and more recently online.
Kath is excited to be taking up a position at BIS -NY and looks forward to becoming a fully involved, positive member of the school community.
