Teacher

Alicia Gibson, Ms. A.Ms. Gibson is a passionate educator who strives to reach all students by providing instruction that is designed to help students reach their full potential. Ms. Gibson employs a hands-on approach to learning and feels that children learn best when concepts and ideas are presented in a way that affects their daily lives. She does this through a variety of different media including manipulatives, news articles, books, games, thinking routines, field trips, real life experiences, and numerous other educational tools.

As a life-long learner Ms. Gibson is constantly looking to further her own knowledge. She has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Berea College in Berea, KY.She graduated with a teaching certificate in May of 2007 after a rigorous five year program that included a full year of student teaching under some of the most exceptional educators in the area. She is currently completing a Master’s Degree, and will begin her Doctoral Program for Educational Leadership this coming fall. In addition, Ms. Gibson seeks opportunities to further her understanding of child development and learning through specialized courses and conferences.

While attending college Ms. Gibson worked as an Early Years teacher at Bright Beginnings, participated in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program, and volunteered with various children’s charities in the Eastern Kentucky/Appalachian region. After earning her degree Ms. Gibson moved to the New York City area and became a private in-home teacher.During this time she designed curriculum specifically tailored to the needs of the children in her care. She has worked with children ranging from birth to age twelve for more than ten years, and has a firm grasp of a child’s progression through developmental stages.

Ms. Gibson enjoys the real-life application involved with the IB-PYP Program because it provides students with the tools they need to be life-long learners. She promotes inquiry and open-mindedness in the classroom, and encourages students to explore their own thinking and learning.
