Science and Robotics

Mr. DeLuca will be leading a group of students in a science club called the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) Lego League.  This is a worldwide organization in which 9-14 year old students are given an open-ended problem to solve using Lego Mindstorms technology. This is much more than making models using Lego blocks, this is using advanced technology to help solve real problems! Go to YouTube and search “FIRST Lego League” to see some competitions from previous years and what it’s all about. This year’s challenge will be announced on September 2, then students will work together to meet that challenge, and participate in tournaments throughout the winter with other teams in the NYC area.

Cost: $1275 for the semester ($75 per class). *Please note there is a minimum of 8 pupils for this club to run & the club ends at 5:30pm.

About the Teacher: Joe DeLuca

Mr. DeLuca is BIS-NY’s Head of Science and has been teaching science for the past 8 years in a variety of locations throughout the US as well as in The Netherlands.  He studied biology at university and has also received a Masters of Science in Science Education.  He is very excited about this club because it will be an opportunity to give students the chance to work collaboratively to solve problems and hopefully ignite a lifelong passion for science and technology.
